Hoyleton Ministries to Host Open House

SALEM, IL (January 2016) – Hoyleton Ministries will host a ribbon cutting and open house on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, to give the community an inside look at Hoyleton’s newest therapeutic residential center, The Schippel House.

The center is being dedicated to Rev. Dr. Paul Schippel for his  20 years of serving young people through his leadership of Hoyleton Ministries.  As CEO,  Schippel was committed to improving the lives of the most vulnerable young individuals.  He was diligent as an advocate for young people who otherwise may not have been heard. Schippel is known for his great respect for the residents and dedicated staff members who worked at Hoyleton Ministries.

The Schippel House will provide services for youth who are diagnosed as intellectually and/or developmentally disabled and in need of 24-hour care in an interdisciplinary treatment program.  Residents will range in age from 9 to 21, generally have IQ’s of 50 or below, and display autism spectrum disorders, significant impairment in learning, social skills and other areas of daily functioning, and may also have medical complexities.

Residents receive constant supervision in behavior management and the development of life skills.  Goals are designed for each resident some of which include educational and motor skills for reading and writing.  Life skill goals such as proper communication and personal hygiene are also considered.

“We are very proud to be able to have Rev. Schippel’s name associated with our facility,” stated Monte Mister, Director of Residential Services for Hoyleton Ministries.  “He is highly regarded for the integrity with which he led Hoyleton in its mission to serve young people.”

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) refer residents to the program by matching the child’s needs with services that are provided through Hoyleton’s therapeutic treatment model.

The Schippel House, which will employ approximately 20 workers, opened in late fall of 2015.  Currently there are three youth who reside at the Schippel house.  Hoyleton anticipates residence being at capacity by the Spring of 2016. Hoyleton Ministries chose Salem for its close proximity to their residential program in Hoyleton, the central location and its reputation as a caring, welcoming community.

The open house will take place from 4- 6 with a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony scheduled for 5:00 at 1311 South Marion Avenue, Salem IL.
