When Pearl Fark and her son Randy visited Hoyleton’s new residential campus, it wasn’t just a trip down memory lane—it was a moving testament to how one family’s devotion has touched generations of youth and continues to inspire hope today.
A Lifetime of Caring
Pearl devoted more than 30 years of her life to Hoyleton, first as a cook and later as an overnight youth care worker. Her compassion and tireless work ethic made her a beloved figure to both clients and staff. For many of the youth in her care, she provided not just meals or supervision, but something far greater—a sense of family and belonging that many had never known before.
Inspired by his mother’s unwavering spirit, Randy followed in her footsteps, holding several different roles during his 26-year tenure at Hoyleton. Together, their combined service represents more than half a century of shaping young lives through understanding, structure, and unconditional kindness.
Honoring a Legacy
During their recent visit, Pearl and Randy were welcomed by staff who had worked alongside them over the years. Hoyleton President and CEO Chris L. Cox, who started his career at Hoyleton in 1990 as a youth care worker, has fond memories of working with both Pearl and Randy and expressed heartfelt appreciation for the Fark family’s enduring impact:

In speaking about his mother’s legacy, Randy shared a heartfelt reflection:
“People often talk about the ‘Pearl Effect,’ but what they were really describing was ‘the Mom Effect.’ My mom had a gift for making people feel seen, loved, and accepted—especially youth who hadn’t experienced that kind of care before. This was noticeable in both clients and staff. That’s why so many called her ‘Miss Pearl,’ a title spoken with both respect and affection. Her legacy at Hoyleton isn’t just in the years she served, but in the countless lives she touched with her unwavering kindness and motherly heart. I’m proud to carry forward that spirit as part of Hoyleton’s story.”

At Pearl’s recent 95th birthday celebration, a former youth she once cared for came to thank her personally, sharing how her influence shaped their paths in life. Another who couldn’t attend sent a heartfelt letter expressing gratitude for the love and encouragement that helped her grow into who she is today
