A volunteer commitment looks different for everyone. Some donate their time while others make monetary donations or planned gifts. Hoyleton has volunteers who have supported our mission for years across different programs while others come for specific events. Whether the Hoyleton mission has been passed down through generations or this is the start of a new family tradition, the hope and sense of community our volunteers provide our youth is irreplaceable. Hoyleton takes a holistic approach to meeting the physical, mental, and emotional needs of youth and families, which provides numerous volunteer opportunities. Our volunteer partnership begins with an exploratory meeting. In this initial meeting we learn what talents and resources you would like to share and discuss how they can be best utilized for our mission. We work with individual volunteers and can also accommodate groups and clubs. Serving as a volunteer should be as fulfilling for you as it is for our youth and families.

Available Volunteer Opportunities
- Clerical/Office Assistance
Staying organized is a priority for keeping an office running smoothly. Volunteers assisting with filing, phone calls, bilingual assistance and general office duties help our staff work efficiently and effectively. We can establish an ongoing set schedule for you or we can call you when help is needed. We are flexible to what works best for you.
- Community Events
Churches and community organizations across Madison, St. Clair, Clinton and Washington counties hold events throughout the year and donate their proceeds to Hoyleton. These fundraising events require volunteers to ensure the event runs smoothly and that the event is a positive experience for all involved. The annual Hike & Bike, hosted by the Maeystown United Church of Christ, is a 5K, 10K and half marathon that donates proceeds from the event to Hoyleton to support our mission. Several volunteers are needed for this event to organize participant packets, check in participants on day of race, and to hand out water on the course during the event. Volunteers can also help serve lunch after the activities.
Trivia Nights are another fundraising option that allows groups to have fun while volunteering and raising money for our mission. We support and promote the events hosted by our church and community partners by featuring event details on our social media and our website’s events page. If your group would like to host an event and select Hoyleton as your beneficiary, or if you are interested in volunteering at one of these events please let us know. We also welcome new fundraising event ideas and opportunities.
- Back to School Drive Opportunities
Each year we provide the youth in any Hoyleton program with a new backpack filled with school supplies for the new school year. We need volunteers to help by donating the school supplies, filling the backpacks, and helping distribute the backpacks at the Foster Care and Puentes de Esperanza Back to School parties. Our Back to School Drive begins in June and wraps up in early August.
- Hope for the Holidays
For most, the holiday season is the most wonderful time of the year, but for some of the youth and families we serve the season can be difficult. Hoyleton makes it a goal that every child in our care has a gift to open during the holidays. Our annual Hope for the Holidays drive encourages our donors and volunteers to get involved by shopping from a child’s wish list, wrapping gifts, and in some cases helping out during our holiday parties.
The Hope for the Holidays drive begins in mid-October and concludes the first week of December. This timeline ensures that all gifts can be purchased, wrapped and distributed in time for Christmas. This is a wonderful way to make a difference in the life of a child in need.
