The Poshard Foundation Announced 29 Grant Awards to Southern Illinois Agencies Serving Abused and Neglected Children

Carterville, IL –Hoyleton Youth and Family Services was the recipient of a grant awarded by The Poshard Foundation during Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Jo Poshard, Director of The Poshard Foundation for Abused Children, announced grants totaling $100,000 to 29 agencies in southern Illinois.

Hoyleton Youth and Family Services plans to use the funds to implement a project highlighting self-care in an effort to boost self-esteem in young females ages 10-18 who are part of their residential program in Hoyleton, IL.

The project, titled, “A Special Space just for You,” will allow Hoyleton to enhance each of the 16 female youth’s bedrooms at the Hoyleton residential campus with a vanity set and stool, a light up mirror and a starter hygiene kit that includes facial cleanser, lip gloss and hair products. These are personal items that youth in a residential program may have never had before. The intent of the project is to provide young females an opportunity to begin each day in their own space, with a routine to encourage self-care and boost self-esteem.  The special space will allow them a place to organize and store their own toiletries, make-up and other personal items.

“The Poshard Foundation distributes these grants in April to draw attention to the plight of abused children in Southern Illinois during Child Abuse Prevention month but reminded the public that child abuse exists twelve months a year…not only in April. We must be vigilant year-round,” said Poshard.
