Substance Abuse Prevention

When it comes to combating substance abuse, Knowledge is Power.
Our substance abuse prevention program uses Life Skills Training - Botvins to combat the rise of users among youth in Southern Illinois. Our work offers decision-making practice, anxiety coping skills, and social and communication skills to better improve self-image so youth can make healthy choices.

Topics Covered Include:

  • Ways to talk to youth about drug and alcohol use
  • Managing expectations around use
  • Appropriate youth and parent behaviors in and out of the house
  • Signs of abuse among peers

PREVENTION IS FOR EVERYONE.

Recognizing abuse of substances and having the resources to handle abuse situations is important for everyone in the community. We work with parents, teachers, school administrators, community groups and leaders, and any agency serving youth.
Expanded resources make our impact greater.
We partner with several community agencies to provide more prevention resources to Southern Illinois. Our partners include:
  • St. Joseph’s hospital in Breese
  • Washington County Health Department
  • Communities that Care Coalition
  • Clinton County Health department
  • Cahokia Unit #187 School District
Hoyleyton has been instrumental in helping our students become more aware of the societal issues they will be facing and giving them solutions to face their concerns.  We have been very pleased with the ease at which Hoyleton has collaborated with our school to help our students, by bringing us resources we would not otherwise have access to.
